WATER – A PRECIOUS RESOURCE
I will not say, ‘Don’t waste water’, ‘Save Water,’ . These slogans are boring for all of us. I instead, will say a story, a story of a river whose chronicle is very wealthy.
“Once upon a time, a river flowed gracefully. It was so nice that when it’s waves dashed each other, the droplets which came out of it looked like jasper, carnelian, ruby, emerald, sapphire, ornyx, diamond, amber, etc. Mostly it looked like turguoise in the night.
When the sun said’Hello’ to the river, the river changed into golden color. This river proved to be wealthy that it stole the heart of poets. Even those Rishis would be jealous of the river’s wealth.
In turn, the river took care of the welfare of others. But soon because of our selfish needs, the river which was once surrounded by wealth turned into a desert. I am talking about the Kaveri river . This river which was once surrounded with wealth, now it is struck with poverty. It’s not a river it’s a desert today. It’s wealth is looted! All because of us.
Lastly, I end this story with a poem:-
“Those who have eyes will see,
Those who have ears will hear,
Those who have minds will
THINK & ACT,”.

Water is an essential part of life for all living things. Our planet Earth consists of 70% of water but only 4% of water is potable. Hence, it is our duty to save water for future. Studies have revealed that living beings can sustain life for 8 days by drinking water alone. Rainfall is the main source of water. Dams and reservoirs are built for storing water and used during summer season. Now a days water pollution is one of the biggest nightmares, it not only affects the organisms living in water but also affects the whole planet. We, humans, are responsible for water pollution, which is caused because of sewage water dispersal, Industrial effluents, deforestation, extensive use of plastics and wide spread use of fertilizers and pesticides If this is not taken seriously, it will lead to disruption of the ecosystem, threat to marine life and would increase toxic wastes. Moreover, it is our duty to teach the younger generation about usage of water and for that, we should use it properly. Minimum usage of water is the first and foremost principle which everyone should follow. Construction of proper rain water, harvesting system will help in maintaining ground water level. We should avoid throwing plastics in the river channel. Unless and until we change ourselves the sentence “Water is a precious resource” will remain in words . Let us take an oath that we will not bring in a situation where water, water is everywhere but not a drop to drink.
