The school re-opened on 9th June 2014 on a note of celebration as we secured cent percent result in the SSLC as well as in the Higher Secondary Exams held in March / April 2014. “There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other, how to live.” We not only impart knowledge to students, but also imbibe in them a strong value system that helps the students to live life the right way.
The entire academic year was replete with various activities and programs that certainly gave an opportunity to students to hone their various skills, develop self-discipline and leadership qualities, strengthen their self belief, experience the joy of giving, in short, worked on the multi-dimensional personality of the student. Following is a brief report on the year long activities and programs.
The Investiture ceremony of the Student Council was held on 25th June 2014. The former School Pupil leaders invested the members of the Student Council. Endowment Prizes were distributed to the Toppers in the SSLC as well as the Higher Secondary Exam held in March/April 2014. Parents of the Student leaders and the Toppers were invited to witness the ceremony.
NSN MENON MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT & KALA MELA
The inter-school competitions NSN MENON MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT & KALA MELA were conducted on 4th & 5th July 2014. As many as 30 schools participated in NSN MMT and around 13 schools participated in Kala Mela. Mrs.Sushila Maran, CEO & Founder, Proximum Fitness, inaugurated the NSN MMT. Mr.Abhinay Vaddi, hero of the bio pic RAMANUJAN, presided over the Valedictory function and distributed the prizes to the winners. VIDYA MANDIR @ Estancia, won the overall championship in Kala Mela.
Our school joined hands with AIESEC, the world’s largest student run organization which provides a platform that enables young people to explore and develop their leadership potential for them to have an impact on society and conducted a Project Worldview, a project that aims at providing young minds of the city with the opportunity to understand various cultures of the world through direct interaction with Foreign Nationals. Students from Italy, Ukraine, Slovakia, Russia, Kazakhistan, Egypt, Turkey, China, Vietnam, Malaysia & Australia visited the school. Presentations were made by 7 countries and it was a great learning experience for the students from Std.III – XII.
“Don’t let what you can’t do stop you from doing what you can do”. The school provides a platform to the students to exhibit their unique talents. A talent show was conducted on 1st August 2014. Students of Std.VI –XII exhibited their talents. Some of the students had unique talents Technocrat India College Finder conducted a Career Guidance and Counselling Program for the students and parents of Std.XII on 9th August 2014.
MASS GEETHA CHANTING
The school joined hands with Chinmaya Mission on 4th Aug’ 14 and conducted a mass Geetha chanting for World peace. The students recited the 14th Chapter from the Bhagavad Gita.
Independence day was celebrated on 15th Aug’14 by hoisting the national flag. Speeches were given in Tamil and English. The school choir sang patriotic songs and the celebration concluded with the school band playing the national anthem.
15th August is earmarked as ‘Alumni Day’ . Several old students turned up for the get-together. It is always a pleasure to interact with the alumni and relive the memories of their student days.
“A teacher takes a Hand, Opens a mind and touches a Heart”Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 5th September 2014. Students of Std.XII entertained the teachers and also conducted games for them. It is a day looked forward to by the teachers.
EYE & DENTAL CAMP
An Eye & Dental Camp was conducted by Vasan Eye Care and Dental Hospital in the month of August 2014. We wish to place on record our sincere thanks for the camps conducted by them over the last 5 years.
True evolutions is transcending all discriminations. To promote the spirit of Oneness, we celebrate all the major festivals in our school. Presentations are made by the students in the General Assembly.
ALL FAITH PRAYER
The Scouts and Guides conducted an All Faith Prayer meeting before the Terminal Exams to pray for the success of the students in the examination.
The installation of the office bearers of the Interact Club of NSN Spectrum was held on 31st July 2014. Mr. Gnanavelan, the new President of the Rotary Club of Chennai Galaxy, installed the new President.
The ‘Project Day’ was held in the month of November. Students of Kindergarten worked on “Habitat” and the students from Primary & High School, on “The Great Indian Heritage”. Projects help the students in working together as a team. It encourages learning beyond the classroom and it also paves way for collaborative learning and creativity.
GREEN SCHOOL OF INDIA AWARD.
Our school received the prestigious Green School of India Award for the year 2014, from the C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, a Centre of Excellence of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, for the various activities that the school has been conducting in promoting and creating a green environment and in being eco-friendly. This award is indeed a great encouragement for our future endeavours in promoting a green environment.
The Anniversary of infinitheism is celebrated as INFINI DAY on 11th November every year. It is earmarked as a day on which one can do infinite good deeds to society. This year our students took out a rally covering 5 kms carrying placards with the timeless wisdom of infinitheism. Our students gave motivational talks in English & Tamil to the students in thirteen schools, including government schools, for a duration of 45 mins. each. The sessions were well received. It was a unique experience for the speakers as they were addressing students of their age and also using their oratorical skill to make a difference to society
Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th Nov’2014. Teachers entertained the students. It was a day on which children made teachers dance to their tune! There was a lot of camaraderie between the teachers and the taught. It was a special day in NSN as it is earmarked as a Thanksgiving Day. Students conveyed their gratitude and love to their parents through a special card made by them!
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Life becomes holistic only when all the three phases – Learning, Earning and Returning fill your life. The value of sharing and caring is etched in the minds of NSNites very early in life. “It does not matter what you have”. What really matters is what you do with what you have. This year the students of the NSN Group of Schools raised a sum of `.9,13,580/- . A sum of `.9 lacs was donated to World Vision India, which will be used to provide sanitation and drinking water facilitates in three government schools. A sum of `15,000/- was donated to Goodlife Centre, Tambaram, a Home for abandoned children.
The school has been celebrating ‘Grandparents Day’ for the past 13 years. Students of KG and Primary presented a variety entertainment on 6th Dec’2014. It was a program conducted exclusively for the grandparents.
BOUQUET OF THANKS
In order to appreciate and acknowledge the service of the support staff, the students made a Bouquet of Flowers and honoured them in the morning Assembly. Thank you cards were given to them and there were tears of joy in their eyes!
A full fledged “Intra-Mural Sports Meet was conducted for the Primary on 29th Jan’ 2015 and for High School on 30th Jan’2015. Apart from the track events and the mass drill students presented a colourful display of cultural programs with as many as 200 to 300 students participating in each of the items.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP
“Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer – into a selflessness which links us with all humanity.” The NSN Group of Schools alongwith with Jeevan Blood Bank has been conducting a blood donation camp for the past three years. This year too it will be held in the month of February. We take this opportunity to thank our parents for the immense support extended by them by eagerly coming forward to donate blood. We collected as much as 124 units of blood this year.
The Kindergarten Graduation Day was held on 20th March 2015 for the students of Upper kindergarten who graduated to Primary. Mrs.Hepzyba Gunaseelan, Principal, St.Britto’s Academy, Velachery presided over the function. In order to celebrate the completion of 14 yrs of school education and to give a fitting farewell to the students of Std.XII, the Graduation Day was held on 4th April 2015. Parents of the students were also invited to participate in the function.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Continuous learning and self-improvement are the hallmark of a good teacher Staff development is a continuous process in our school. Teachers attend various workshops and in-service training programs conducted within the school, and outside in order to develop their skills.
